President selective over
titles, says priest

Controversial Kitale Parish priest
Fr Gabriel Dolan has termed the issuance of title deeds by the
President as selective and inconsistent.
The priest, who is the Kitale
Catholic Justice and Peace Commission chairman, said there were so
many landless people who deserved to be given land first.
President Kibaki on Saturday gave
out 12,000 land title deeds in Nakuru District.
Dolan, at the same time, accused
the Government of dilly-dallying on the Ndung’u Commission
report.
He said many Kenyans had hoped that
the report would resolve the many land problems.
"There are so many people in
Trans Nzoia, Molo and other parts of the country who, for instance,
have been landless for over 40 years. Such people should have been
considered first," said Dolan in telephone interview.
Several leaders have criticised
President Kibaki for issuing the titles and sidestepping a court
order barring the issuance. Justice Daniel Musinga granted a
temporary order barring the Commissioner of Lands from issuing
title deeds for Tinet, formerly part of the South-Western Mau
Forest.
