Ogiek Professionals to view for Parliamentarians Seats 2007 Election

The Ogiek comunity have declared their interest for parlimentary seats in general Elections comes 2007. During a two days meeting organised by Ogiek Rural Integral Project in Nakuru town which ended on friday 15th, their leaders led by lawyer Charles Saina Sena ( Ex-Dir. Ogiek Rural Integral Project) and Auditor Daniel Kobei (chairman- Ogiek Peoples Development Program) and Lecturer Dr. Johnson Changeiwo (Ex-Dir. Chepkitale Indigenous People) demanded the release of Ndungu report be made public by the government sooner than later. 


The meeting which brought ogiek leaders across the country was through the support of European Union. The EU was presented by one Ms.Jackline .The Yiaku Community from Laikipia was Presented by Mrs.Jeniffer Koinante, who encouraged women to be tough in their struggles and educate girl child.*The theme of the workshop was " democracy,good Governance and Ogiek Rights.*It brought participants from Mt.Elgon, Narok and Nakuru Districts.Chiefs, Pastors and Councilors from Ogeik also attended.More than 120 ogieks atended the meeting. It was officially opened by Dr.Moses Aketch on behalf of Mr.P.L.O Lumumba the secreatary to the constitrution of kenya Review commission. 

In his speech, Lumumba hailed Ogiek( hunter gatherer community) for adhering to their own culture in the modern era of rapid changes." historians will always remember you fondly.However, I urge you to remember that fidelity to culture must never be construed as resistance to change. your beautiful culture must embracechange at all times" its reads. Dr.Aketch emphasised the urged of unity within the Ogiek and compared them with the Jews. Ogiek were also urged to keep off from HIV/ Aids viruses which might wipe out their number. He congrats them for caring of fauna and Flora. 

Mr. Sena urged the government to implemenst the Bomas draft or the zero draft and stop confusing kenyans and the public on consensus bills. He call upon the ministry of land to issue tittles deeds to only genuine existing clans of the Ogiek. He said the ogiek will tke the government into task if non-ogieks will benefit in the issuance of the tittles.Mr Sena will vie for Narok South constituency. 

Mr. Kobei urged the goverment to establish the truth,Justice and Reconciliation Commision and provides Ogiek with key positions due them paying taxes. He called upon the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission to immediately bring to the public curruption allegation in settlements scheme within Mau Complex. He urged Ogiek leaders not to sell their ancestral land due will endanger the community existance in language and Culture.Mr.Kobei will vie for Molo constituency while Dr. Changeiwo will target Mt.Elgon Constituency.
