COMMUNITY MOBILIZATION ON HUMAN RIGHTS ADVOCACY PROGRAM
Memo of 8TH AUGUST 2004
REPORT TO: OGIEK RURAL INTEGRAL PROJECT
TITLE: COMMUNITY MOBILIZATION ON HUMAN RIGHTS ADVOCACY PROGRAM
BY: WILLIAM TOWETT
DIVISION: MARIASHONI - CHIEF’S CAMP
DATE: 8TH AUGUST 2004
INTRODUCTION
The district coordinator Mr. Tegeret introduced the facilitators to the leaders present at the meeting. He talked about ORIP and the current program being undertaken by ORIP and the DGSP which deals with Human Rights issues. He said that the problem facing the Ogiek community is because they have little or no knowledge about their rights.
I told them about DGSP, and its activities among them workshops and meetings convened in villages. I spoke on human rights, women rights and children rights, without disregarding indigenous rights as stipulated in International instruments. I also told them about the workshop to be held in September.
ISSUES RAISED
- They thanked ORIP for bringing such a crucial program that will help them address their
problems.
|
- Chief Mr. Salim O Kibilo requested for a
flag, writing materials so that they help the community.
|
- Several leaders want a secluded place so that they stump out their difference without unduly interferences from
outside.
