The Task Force on the establishment
of a Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission has pledged
Government security for Kenyans presenting their views before
it.
A statement by the Chairman of the
Task Force, Prof Makau Mutua, said following the Government’s
decision to protect Kenyans, they should not fear airing their
views.
“Freedom of the expression is a
constitutional right of every citizen and the State is duty-bound
to defend and promote it,” said Mutua.
Mutua said in Molo and Eldoret,
many did not air their views to the Task Force citing insecurity.
He said the Task Force which has
divided itself into teams will this week hold public hearings in
Nyanza, Western and Eastern.
Stations in Nyanza are in Kisumu,
Kisii, Gucha, Kuria, Western in Kakamega and Mt Elgon, while in
Eastern, they will visit Machakos, Meru and Isiolo.
