The Government made major changes in the Provincial Adminstration.

The changes, contained in a circular dated February 22 and signed by Provincial Administration PS Mr Cyrus Gituai, also saw the reshuffle of more than 100 officials.

More than 20 DCs from Rift Valley Province, which bore the brunt of the post-election violence, were reshuffled or transferred to new stations outside the province.

On Monday, Gituai said the transfers were aimed at enhancing security and other services and filling vacant positions.

The administrator said each of the 146 district headquarters needed a DC.

"Most of the new districts have been vacant and those are the positions we are trying to fill," Gituai told The Standard on phone.

He said the changes would ensure the District Intelligence and Security Committees and other departments were operational.

Said Gitua: "The purpose for the changes is to ensure there is service delivery and to put in place infrastructure to operationalise other matters."

In the changes, senior Naivasha DO I, Mr George Oyiagi, has been promoted to the rank of DC and transferred to Shinyalu District in Western Province. Mr Fredrick Ayiecho, a senior DO and an Administrative Officer I at the Rift Valley PC’s office, becomes Mandera Central DC.

Nakuru DC, Mr Wilson Wanyangah, who has served in the district for less than a year, has been moved to Meru Central , in the same capacity.

Also affected by the changes is Mr Peter Kinuthia who served in Keiyo District and has been transferred to Kyuso in Eastern Province. But a source at the PC’s office in Nakuru said most of the affected officers were yet to be notified of the changes.

" We are yet to inform them but we will fax or send signals to them," the source said.
