United Nations secretary-general Ban Ki-moon arrives Friday in Nairobi to add international pressure on the two sides in the political crisis to agree on a peaceful solution.

Mr Ki-moon is expected to hold talks with President Kibaki and ODM leader Raila Odinga in what is seen to be a move to bolster mediation efforts led by his predecessor Kofi Annan.

The UN boss has been at the African Union meeting in Ethiopia.

On Thursday, Mr Ki-moon said the duty of ending the violence and restoring the country to stability lay with President Kibaki and Mr Odinga.

President Kibaki was also in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the African Heads of State meeting.

A UN official in Kenya said Mr Ki-moon is visiting the country to give support to the mediation efforts by Panel of African Eminent Persons led by Mr Annan.

Mr Annan has succeeded in bringing together President Kibaki and Mr Odinga and Thursday chaired the first talks of the National Dialogue committee drawing members from the Government and ODM side.

The talks continue Friday....
