ethnic clashes

At least 17 people were killed in overnight ethnic clashes in
western Kenya spurred by December's disputed presidential polls,
police said Sunday.
"As of now, we have 17 people killed - 11 in Nakuru's Manyani
slums and six in Tomboroa (trading post)," a police commander said.
"They also burned a church and a dispensary in Tomboroa during the
night that was marked by gunfire, war songs and wailing from women
and children." he added.
"At first we heard whistles and people chanting war songs. They
were flashing spot lights and waving machetes as they approached
the town, which they eventually set fire to," a police officer on
the ground in Tomboroa said. - Sapa-AFP
