Politician killed as 'peace' decoys lure him to trap

A Molo politician is among three people killed in Kuresoi in post-election violence.

Mr G.G Ngengi allegedly received a phone call from one of the assailants requesting him to arbitrate in the ongoing tribal clashes that have rocked various parts of Molo District only to be killed moments later.

According to eye witnesses, Mr Ngengi had arrived at Ngenia Farm, where he allegedly owns land, and where he was scheduled to broker peace at 10am only to be hacked to death and his body recovered lying in a pool of blood.

At least 40 people have been killed and 60 others injured during the last three days in parts of Nakuru, Njoro, Molo, Eldama Ravine and Mau Narok.

More than 40 other casualties of the clashes were admitted to the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital while 15 others were being treated at the Molo District Hospital.

On Wednesday the Nation established that areas such as Sirikwa, Ngenia, Muchorwe and Mau Summit remained volatile following escalating arson attacks that have rocked the area since last Sunday when the clashes erupted.

The victims had been shot with arrows while others had deep machete wounds in various parts of their bodies sustained during the bloody week of violence attributed to polls results.

About 50 houses had been torched in Baruti, Mogoon and Kapkures area on the outskirts of Nakuru Municipality while an unknown number of other houses were set ablaze in Ngenia, Sirikwa, Meta, Mau Narok, Mukungugo, Kihingo and Ndeffo areas of Molo District.

Tens of houses were also torched in Nyakinyua, Karirikania and Muchorwe areas in Kuresoi constituency

On Wednesday, police in Molo patrolled in Ngenia, Nyakinyua and Sirikwa following the skirmishes while the injured were admitted to Molo District Hospital.

In Nakuru Town, relative calm returned barely a day after heavy gunfire rent the air in the eve of the New Year as security forces dispersed youth who had lit bonfires in various parts of the sprawling Langalanga and Ponda Mali estates.

Meanwhile, three people were killed in different parts of Narok North District. Two were killed in Nairegia Enkare and the other at Ntulele Trading Centre.
