A Briton has been killed during a suspected botched robbery at his
home in Kenya.
Graham Warren, from Northampton, was shot in his home near Watamu,
about 150 miles north of Mombasa, after apparently disturbing
armed thieves.
It is understood Mr Warren, who was in his sixties, and his wife
Christine returned to their house, which is set in three acres of
land and overlooks the Indian Ocean, shortly after 10pm last night
after dining in a restaurant with two guests from England.
They are thought to have disturbed a gang of thieves who were
ransacking their house.
The thieves are believed to have been armed with sticks and at
least one gun. They are reported to have ordered members of the
party to lie on the ground, but Mr Warren was shot and died at the
house about one hour later.
Police are today hunting the gang with the help of tracker dogs.
A neighbour said: "It was a bungled robbery. This sort of thing
rarely happens here. It is very safe."
Mrs Warren is being comforted by friends and neighbours. Family
members are understood to be flying to Kenya from England.
Mr Curtis said: "It is a great shock. He was a wonderful man. He
loved Kenya and spent two years building his house."
Mr Warren had loved to fish in the area and had spent the day on
his boat fishing with his guests.
A Foreign Office spokesman said the High Commission in Kenya was
in contact with the man's family and providing assistance.
