KAPENGURIA MP Samuel Moroto has been challenged to volunteer information to assist apprehend suspects in Mt Elgon killings.
Mt Elgon MP, John Serut, alleged that Moroto, an assistant minister in the Office of the President, had vital information on the clashes and killings and that he should divulge the information to the relevant authorities.
At the same time, Serut who is the Planning and National Development assistant minister, hit out at Science and Technology minister Dr Noah Wekesa and his Agriculture counterpart Kipruto Kirwa for “shedding crocodile tears” over the killings.
Responding to an article in the Kenya Times yesterday which said five MPs had planned to foster peace in Mt Elgon, Serut lashed out at Moroto’s call on the Government to withdraw security personnel and unconditionally release one Fred Kapondi, held for allegedly instigating the clashes.
Speaking after attending Labour Day celebrations at Uhuru Park , Serut said he strongly believed Moroto had crucial evidence on the killings of 150 people reported to have lost their lives in the clashes which have also left thousands others displaced.
Serut hit out at Dr Wekesa and Kirwa for their current involvement in the Mt Elgon issue, saying the two had declined to offer assistance when he requested to do so eight months ago.
He told his Cabinet colleagues to concentrate on the problems affecting their constituencies and keep off Mt Elgon issues.
“How can an assistant minister call for the withdrawal of security in a constituency he does not represent? He has repeatedly demanded the release of Fred Kapondi. I want Moroto to tell the people of Mt Elgon, the Government and Kenyans what interest he has in Mt Elgon,” Serut charged.
He equally turned his fury onto Wekesa, the Kwanza MP, accusing him of using Mt Elgon issue to attack him (Serut) in a bid to endear himself to 14,000 Saboat voters residing in Kwanza ahead of the General Election.
On Kirwa’s plan to lead a team of five neighbouring MPs in alleged peace building, Serut advised the Cheranganyi MP to stop dreaming of resolving the problems afflicting Mt Elgon people.
The MPs bordering the area are Samuel Poghisio (Kacheliba), Moroto, Dr Wekesa, Kirwa and Dr Mukhisa Kituyi
(Kanduyi).
