POLICE have sealed off Kimboroa forest along the Kenya-Uganda border in a bid to track down suspected raiders believed to have killed six people at Kinyoro trading centre in Trans Nzoia district.

Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of operations in Rift Valley Province, Ephantus Kiura, said police officers believe the killers are hiding in the forest.

Kiura said they were liaising with their Ugandan counterparts to ensure the killers were nabbed and security in the region was maintained.

He said two suspects are being held in connection with the killings and were helping police with investigations.

Kiura also appealed to members of the public to volunteer information that could lead to the arrest of suspects.

Meanwhile, the Government has re-opened two police posts at Kinyoro and Kitalale trading centres to beef up security in the area following the killings. Kitale OCPD Antony Kimentu said the opening of the police stations follows a request by residents to Rift Valley PC Hassan Noor Hassan.

At the same time, the Rift Valley PC has called on leaders in Trans Nzoia and West Pokot districts to co-operate with Government security agencies to stamp out crime in the area.

Noor was speaking in Nzoia County Council hall when he addressed leaders drawn from various communities in the district.

He asked leaders to be at the forefront in identifying criminals behind the recent killings and cautioned them against politicising the issue.

The PC noted that illegal firearms which were in the hands of some members of the communities was a threat to security.
