The United States Ambassador Michael Ranneberger has called for the end of ongoing clashes.
The ambassador said the clashes are not acceptable and should be ended.
Speaking during the flagging off of an anti-Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) walk in Kilgoris on Saturday, Ranneberger said some politicians were using gangs to further their personal interests.
Kenyans, he said, are now smarter for such kind of people. He wondered why clashes erupt during elections while different clans have been living harmoniously all along.
Clashes have recently erupted in Mt Elgon, Banana, and Tana River. He said the US supports the Government’s efforts to end FGM.
He noted that FGM has declined since it was outlawed in 2001. He called for partnership with various organisations to end the tradition.
The envoy said the US is keen to sensitise communities to end the
practice.
