Police have arrested three people over the killing of a bishop in Mt Elgon on Monday.
Security officers raided Kibumet village in Kaimugul sub-location and seized the three from an illicit brew den.
Area police chief David Makokha said the arrest followed a tip-off from an informer. Also impounded were two pairs of police uniforms.
Mr Makokha said the men would help police with investigations before being charged.
The Government has beefed up security in Mt Elgon after recent attacks and police patrols have been intensified.
Gangsters on Monday raided Land B in Chebyuk settlement scheme where they shot dead Bishop Benson Matawera and injured a retired administration policeman, Mr Musa Serut, a brother of Mt Elgon MP John Serut.
In a related development, victims of the Mt Elgon clashes have expressed fears over their rising hospital bills.
Survivors of the clashes, most of whom suffered gunshot wounds, yesterday said they did not know where they will get the money to settle their bills.
Mr Alex Tenderesi, who was injured during last week’s attack at Kapsokwony — where six people were killed — has asked the Government to help him out. He said his property was burnt down or was stolen during the raid. He is undergoing treatment at the Lugulu Mission Hospital.
Mr Kibura Thambura, the hospital’s administrator, yesterday said some of the victims might have a problem settling their bills.
But as a hospital, he said, their focus was to treat patients first and then the issue of payment would come later.
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner of police, Mr Lawrence Mwadime, yesterday arrived in Kakamega and held talks with top police officers in the province on insecurity in Mt Elgon.
Mr Mwadime met the Western provincial police officer, Mr Peter Kavila, and other senior policemen before holding talks with provincial commissioner Abdul Mwasera.
Sources said Mr Mwadime had gone to assess the security situation in the troubled district.
Acting Land minister Kivutha Kibwana is also expected in the district today.
Reports by Bernard Kwalia, Luke Kapchanga and Benson Amadala.
