A man said to be the "warlord" behind the clashes in Mt Elgon region, has come out to clear his name.Mr Fred Kapondi Chesebe, who was mentioned by Mt Elgon Member of Parliament, Mr John Serut, as the warlord fanning clashes is pleading innocence.
The claim was made on Wednesday in Parliament and Chesebe is instead accusing Serut.
"Serut is the principal planner of the clashes. He is shifting blame to cover up his evil deeds," he said.
Chesebe, who visited the newsroom, told The Saturday Standard that the assistant minister was using his position to tarnish his name because he feared him.
"Serut has claimed that I am the financier, supplier of guns and food to militia men at Mt Elgon. I do not have funds to perpetrate such a heinous crime," he added.
Serut named Chesebe and four MPs who he alleged were fuelling clashes. He claimed Mr William Ruto, Mr Musa Sirma, Mrs Lina Kilimo and Mr Franklin Bett were behind the clashes.
Chesebe claimed that the fighting in Mt Elgon was no longer about land but politics. Chesebe said he recorded a statement with the CID three weeks
ago.
