GENOCIDE AGAINST THE CHEPKITALE OGIEK CONTINUES
Mt. Elgon / Kenya / 12. July 2004
Mr. Masai Ndiwa Sangula was brutally killed on 17^th May 2004 and that confirms the fear and continued genocide against Chepkitale Ogiek. A well-armed militia group came and pulled Mr. Sangula out of his sleep and shot him using a gun at a very close range. The assassins took nothing from him other than his precious life. They were only after his life as it was not a mere robbery. The government has not made any effort to arrest even a single suspect, who murdered this great opinion leader of the Chepkitale people. This leaves a lot to be desired from the local administration and security personnel, who are known to be partisan and against the Chepkitale Ogiek
Mr. Sangula was a family member of our founding leader Sangula and was a strong opinion leader of the community. He was supposed to be the heir to the leadership but because of Pok community influence in Mt. Elgon region, he never had chance to do so.
The killing of the Chepkitale Ogiek leaders continues as part of the systematic elimination of important members of this community before land matters are addressed in Chepyuk settlement area. I am afraid that a good percentage of Chepkitale people mighty be wiped out before proper settlement is done in the said area. At the moment, there is an organized gang roaming in Kopsiro Division and robbing people at will. Yet there is no effort made to arrest them by the local administration. This situation is made worse by fact that the
M.P. Hon Serut is against the provision of security personnel in
Kopsiro
Division (note the earlier report where he was totally against setting up of the GSU camp in the area).
The Chepkitale people are now helpless and wondering what will happen next as genocide
continues.!!!!!!!
We waited with this report until today, 12. 07. 2004, because we still had hope that the NARC government would interfere, but realize now that we shall not wait to alert and call the international community for help.
The Chepkitale people are appealing to all who cherish and honour the survival and dignity of humanity
to come to their rescue through giving moral and any other kind of support.
Thank you.
